Three years ago I enrolled in a cosmetology course that I had paid a huge amount for and given up three nights a week to take. M, Willy's niece, is now working as a medical assistant in a nursing home in London. It's quite a change for her, as she worked as a personel manager in a factory in Taiwan before. That's actually where I got to know her, when Willy and I spent a month in Taiwan last 2005. We were in Taichung City for IVF treatment, and although the treatment wasn't successful for us, the friends we made there are invaluable, and the 30 days we spent there bonded as closer as a couple.M told us that she took an online medical assistant course before heading off to London. She looked up medical assistant schools, and decided that online was the best option for her. She told me that her online studies only took a couple of months and she received her degree. And her papers were processed super fast, because she was a previous overseas contract worker and had a good record. She sometimes takes in overtime work though, because she says she wants to fill her empty hours. I saw the news the other night about the OFW or Overseas Filipino Worker coming home from Taiwan because the electronic factory that they were working for closed down and they do not have a choice but to come home empty handed and they have to pay for their own plane ticket. It is so hard to see that the economic around the world keeps getting worst. I hope it would be better these coming days in time for the Christmas season for the family to be able to celebrate. Anyway, the government is offering some training for the OFW so they can move on and have a better job in the future. I think it would be best is they would take up a medical assistant course, in just few months they would have their certificates and they could apply even abroad, being a medical assistants gives them more opportunities and have a better salary so they can help their family because most of them are bread winners. I think the government should provide them with good medical assistant schools for the Filipinos who lost their jobs so they can move on with their life and support their families.

During my younger years, I wanted to be a doctor. At that time, it's either you want to be a doctor, a nurse, or a teacher. Time passed by, I never became a doctor. Not even took a course close to it. Now, I want to be a medical assistant. Why? Last week as I have mentioned in my older post, one of my co-worker was laid off. I have been in this company for almost 10 years but this is the first time they have to lay 0ff a worker. When this happened, I began thinking if I am really on a secure industry with regards to my employment. It bothered me a lot and being out of job is not a joke these days.
When I got home I spoke to my husband about my insecurities. He suggested that I better prepare myself my switching to a medical career. It’s not too late. I know I have. Although I’ve certainly thought from time to time about becoming a medical assistant of some sort, I’ve decided to major in nursing since that field seems to suit me a lot better. I have a couple of former classmates enrolled at the medical assistant school back home in the Philippines because they know that medical assistant career is becoming in-demand abroad. As a matter of fact my sister’s boss who is also a known Physician in our province took the medical assistant course because he wanted to work here in the United States and he was told by his siblings who are living here in California said that that’s the only fastest way he can immigrate here in America. It’s really true that becoming a hospital staff is really advantage because they make good money and guaranteed to have a stable job opportunity. I was telling my husband even before that I really wanted to work in the hospital but he was worried for me to hop in the bus to get to school because of the bad guys out there might attack me or something. Well, I don’t blame my husband if he’s over protecting me that way. Anyways, he doesn’t have to worry about that because I’ll probably take the training course online. My aunt who was so close to me died of breast cancer, my uncle died of heart ailment and one thing that really crush my heart into tiny pieces... is every time I remember how my dad suffered from his decease (kidney failure). It's been 5 years ago yet the scenario in the hospital where he was hopelessly treated still seems so fresh and clear. I’ll have my check up again tomorrow. It’s pathetic that the only place I am able to go to is the hospital and I am trying so hard to be patient about it but sometimes it’s just annoying. Originally, my check up is scheduled on Saturday but my mom won’t be able to accompany me so I called up my doctor’s medical assistant to re-schedule my appointment. It’s a good thing I have a good relationship with her and I was able to make another appointment.I find it amazing that my doctor’s secretary has been with my doctor for almost fifteen years now and even though she didn’t have any formal training in a medical assistant school such as in St. Augsutine School of Medical Assistants she’s still was able to do her job efficiently. It’s not easy being a medical assistant because you need to be competent because you’re dealing with people’s health.

I know...i know, I shouldn't be blogging at this moment. I've packed most of our things last night, but still lots of things still not in the luggage yet. *sigh* I was too sleepy to do the packing thingy, I decided to sleep at 3am last night. Hehe..
Supposedly, we are to take ERL go to KLIA today, but having to carry 2 boxes (my family stuffs lah!!) and 2 big luggages and not to mention, 2 active kids along, Hubby is against the idea to use ERL to airport. It will be troublesome to carry so many things including carrying our kids. Hmmmmm...hubby will decide about this later. But if you are wondering whether I'm excited to go back to Sabah today, of course I am. Heheheeeeee It has been long since I went back there, you know!! hehe
Anyway, still remember i went back to hubby's hometown last weekend??? While at Sitiawan or specifically at my Sister-in Law's house, i noticed there is one in-progress house build opposite her house that really captured my attention. Do look at the picture below....

Don't you think the house is just too HUGEEEEEEEEEEE?? It's like a mansion that can accomodate more than 80 people at once. It just so big you know! Well, being a curious human being I am, I asked my SIL who does the house belong to, and guess what...NO!! it's not belong to a medical assistant but it's belong to one of the Specialist Doctors in Sitiawan. My cousin is presently working in a medical foundation. He is working there as a medical assistant. He has been working for that foundation for the past 12 years already. I remembered before he told me that the work that he does is very challenging and the pay is more than other professions right now. As a medical assistant he has to be equipped with the knowledge and know-how especially handling patients in different health conditions. Before becoming a fortified medical assistant, he studied at a medical assistant school where he was trained and informed with the right things to be done in handling patients. The course was easy and educational as well. He is encouraging me to take up the profession. I am thinking of following his footsteps because based on what I see, he has acquired a number of properties already and he drives a sports car. Well, I guess this is the right profession for me. I can earn and help others as well.
